About Nimra Ahmed
Nimra Ahmed is a Pakistani-American novelist. Her first book, A Place for Us, was published in 2006 and her second book, Inheritance, was published in 2007. How the book was written?
How was Namal written? What kind of research went into it? How long did it take to write? The challenge that Nimra faced with writing a novel that featured hijab-wearing Muslim American women was not just how she would portray them in an accurate light, but also how she would present their story to readers. In order to write her book and make sure that Muslim women felt represented, she interviewed several Muslim women from all over. In addition, as a practicing Muslim herself, she knew firsthand what questions one should and shouldn’t ask when one doesn’t understand someone else’s faith. To do so, Nimra wrote an outline for her story that included where it took place and which characters were involved before beginning to write.
What makes this book different from others?
Namal is different from other books because it shows how life can change in a matter of hours, if not minutes. It is a great read, with action, love and tragedy. And although at times it may seem like there are many main characters, Namal keeps everything straight and organized so that you don't get confused or lost. You will definitely become one of those characters as you follow them on their journey through love and war.
Where can you get it?
Namal is not currently in print; however, copies can be purchased from a number of used bookstores online. Used copies typically cost $8.60, but some are more expensive and some are cheaper. Shipping is around $4 for multiple books. It’s always important to make sure you buy from a reputable seller when buying used books, so do your research before purchasing if you’re not using Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Once you’ve made sure that your source is legit, then it’s time to pay them!
