Comfortable and economical, but at the same time, a gambling and frisky crossover with a practical clearance and a voluminous trunk. It sounds about as fantastic as "a wife is a Scandinavian fashion model who cooks well and does not grumble because of football and fishing."

Nevertheless, the Mazda CX-5 generally fits this description.

What is it?

Mazda CX-5 is a mid-size crossover. Body length - 4550 mm, width - 1840 mm, height - 1675 mm. Wheelbase - 2700 mm. Ground clearance - 200 mm.

The model is available in Ukraine with two atmospheric gasoline engines (2 and 2.5 litres) and a 2.2-litre diesel turbo engine. There are front-wheel and all-wheel-drive versions, a 6-speed "mechanics" or a 6-speed "automatic" to choose from.

Prices for the Mazda CX-5 start from 23k USD.

Our test equipment Premium is equipped with a 2.5-litre gasoline engine (194 hp) and an "automatic" on all-wheel drive. This version is worth 37k USD.

How does it go?AboutvUsed Mazda manageability, I can talk for hours. My 2006 Mazda 6 MPS, which I owned some time a few years ago, was a kind of benchmark.

All Mazda cars that I drove after that did not disappoint.

Mazda CX-5 is no exception. The car leaves a feeling of lightness, airiness in motion. That's really true - a car on which you "fly" and not ride.

Manageability is refined as if the car reads your thoughts. In this parameter, the Mazda CX-5 will not yield to either the standard Volkswagen Tiguan or the crossovers of more prestigious brands Audi, Jaguar or Mercedes.

Incredible smoothness - another vast plus Mazda CX-5. This is a very comfortable car. And at speed, when the hours on the road pass unnoticed by passengers. And in the conditions of a city street crowd. The suspension is quite energy-intensive, it is difficult to break through it. So, pits and irregularities, although they will not go unnoticed, are not very annoying.

In corners, the Mazda CX-5 experiences only minimal rolls and stands very well on the "arc." It affects the operation of the G-Vectoring Control system, which transfers the torque between the wheels in a corner.

Separate words deserve a 2.5-litre engine. Sometimes it seems that the characteristics mistakenly underestimated the number of "horses" by at least a couple of dozen. The power reserve is always there. Peppy acceleration is possible at any speed.

It seems like 9 seconds to 100 km / h - not so much. But the Mazda CX-5 looks like a fast car. In a word, daredevils will be pleased.

What does it look like?

Toalligraphy, ikebana, origami ... the Japanese know a lot about art and design. It's even strange how rarely Japanese car companies succeed in stunning cars.

But this applies to Mazda to a lesser extent than to many other manufacturers. And even more so, if we are talking about the latest generations of key Mazda models, of which the luxurious Six stands out.

Mazda CX-5 does not make such a vivid impression. This is still a much more typical design decision than the thoroughbred and original Mazda-6 .

But the Mazda CX-5 still looks very advantageous against the background of many annoying competitors. Especially when viewed from the front.

There is something exquisite in this close look. This is a design success because, from certain angles, the Mazda CX-5 looks no cheaper than, say, the Jaguar F-PACE. But it costs half as much.

Mazda CX-5 needed:

to someone who has not accumulated on the reference Volkswagen Tiguan or simply does not tolerate German pragmatism
to someone who wants the car to obey him, and not vice versa, as is the case with some Japanese and Korean crossovers
the one who believes that the car should first of all drive well and then look pretty good, as is the case with some brainchildren of the French automobile industry

Pass the Mazda CX-5 if:

trunk volume interests you more than acceleration to "hundreds."
overtaking on the highway, you consider a lot of "reckless" and "dudes" who on the road prove what they could not prove in bed

What about the money?

Denes on the Mazda CX-5 will start from 649 thousand. UAH for the front-wheel version with a 2-litre engine and a 6-step "mechanics". Of course, in the most straightforward configuration - with air conditioning instead of climate control, without fog lights, etc.

In the range from 750 to 850 thousand, UAH is a more sophisticated configuration. Four-wheel drive and automatic transmission appear.

I happened to ride on the top-end configuration Premium, which costs a little more than 1 million UAH. For the money, the Mazda CX-5 can not be called an "affordable" car.

But in this configuration, there are entirely premium "chips", for example, a projection screen, a system of retention in the strip and emergency braking, blind-spot control, etc.

And now about fuel consumption.

On the test Mazda CX-5, I travelled from Kiev to the Carpathian region to a family resting there alone. I will not write about speeds, suddenly some traffic police inspector will read this ... but I beat 650 km in just over 5 hours with an average consumption of about 11 litres per 100 km.

I went back to Kiev with my children, a dog, and, most importantly, my watchful wife, who thwarted all attempts of recklessness by the threat of divorce.

The same 600 km was covered in 8 hours, with an average consumption of about 8 litres per 100 km.

This is a fairly typical indicator of modern gasoline crossovers. Given the gambling nature of the Mazda CX-5, such an expense, I would not call it great.

What's inside?

The interior has the same ideas and solutions as in other current Mazda models. Everything is very concise but convenient.
No luxury, but cheapness does not smell here. No revolutionary solutions, but ergonomics are excellent. The large control wheel on the center console is comfortable to touch. Using it with a multimedia system is convenient and simple.
The instrument panel is informative and visual.

I liked the front seats very much, they can comfortably accommodate a person of any complexion. And 600 km in one sitting in the Mazda CX-5 can be done without turning into Quasimodo. Personally verified by a march from Kiev to the Carpathian region.

The back is also quite spacious, although it may seem to someone that the ceiling is low. A few large suitcases and every little thing easily fit into the trunk (580 l). In short, the Mazda CX-5 will come down as a family car.

I can only complain about noise isolation. With this, Mazda traditionally does not matter. In the new Mazda CX-5, of course, the Shumka is better than in the previous generation, but not perfect yet. Actually, the claim can be considered insignificant if you rarely drive on the highway at high speed.

The main discomfort is not related to the motor - here, the sound insulation is good, and it can not be heard even at high speeds. And with aerodynamic noise, which is fully felt at speeds from 120 km / h and above.

Verdict HB 9/10

  • Mazda CX-5 is one of the best crossovers in its price category.
  • In the minuses, you can record the claim for sound insulation that is traditional for Mazda. Well, the design of the CX-5 is not as original and pathos as, say, the Mazda6, which looks much more expensive than it actually costs.
  • The list of advantages of the Mazda CX-5 is significantly longer. This is gambling controllability, and excellent dynamics (at least with a 2.5-litre engine), and quite an impressive efficiency.
  • In terms of interior space and trunk volume, the Mazda CX-5 is not inferior to many competitors.
  • For the price - also full adequacy to market realities. In any case, in simple trim levels.
